Firestone is an American company which began producing car tyres in 1900. A contract with Henry Ford allowed Firestone to expand rapidly from a small company of twelve employees to one of the biggest names in the business, a position which it has retained for a period of at least 75 years. As was the case with other large companies, map production followed initial success in the motor industry. In 1988 Firestone was bought out by the Japanese tyre giant, Bridgestone.
